A Fantastic story of the Brazilian program , which aired on Sunday ( 8 ) , showed that the National Security Agency U.S. ( NSA , its acronym in English ) also spies companies, among them the state-owned Brazilian oil company Petrobras . Guided by information derived from documents leaked by Edward Snowden , a report from Globo TV aired a report classified as " ultrasecreto " which stated that the NSA had succeeded in breaking security protocols from closed systems to capture data for companies classified as " economic objectives " .
The report did not explain what was obtained with the " invasion" of the Petrobras system , but access was concerned because the Brazilian government may jeopardize the auction of oil reserves in the field of Libra , one of the greatest discoveries of pre-salt . Furthermore , the spy also put at risk the confidentiality of exploration technologies developed by the Brazilian oil company , a world leader in oil extraction offshore. In another article published by Reuters on Sunday , the director of the Department of Intelligence U.S. , James R. Clapper said that "there is no secret that the country [USA ] collects information about economic and financial issues , especially to protect U.S. citizens and interests of the allies of the nation ."
Today Dilma Rousseff stressed , also in a statement , condemning the actions of the NSA : " The attempted rape and espionage data and information are incompatible with democratic coexistence between allied countries , being clearly illegitimate ."
Elsewhere in the statement, the President declared that the Brazilian government is keen to get clarification on all Americans eventually committed violations and to demand concrete measures that remove definitively the possibility of espionage offensive to human rights , sovereignty and economic interests of Brazilian companies . " For our part , we will take all measures to protect the country , the government and our businesses ," emphasized the note signed by Rousseff .
