9/11,WTC,ICTS International,Israel,Logan Airport: Sec of State John Kerry,Saudi Arabia Bandar Bush,Syria,WMDS

Saudi Arabia allie  Prince Bandar 'Bush'(,becuase of his close ties to Bush family),suspect along with Israelis of ICTS International who 'guarded' ex Massachusetts Senator John Kerry's Logan Airport Boston on September 11,2001.While Bandar Bush was Saudi Ambassador to the U.S.he and his wife actually provided financial aid through Jonathan Bush's scandalous Riggs Bank  to Saudis later implicated in 9/11 who allegedly boarded flights at Boston Logan abnd Newark New Jersey airports. However as Israeli agent Menahem Atzmon and other Shin Bet - Mossad agents controlling ICTS and its Huntleigh airport security subsidiary,( bought with stock fraud against American investors), the never provided any video surveillance at Logan documenting Egytian Mohamed Atta and his alledged Saudi suicide-terrorist group boarding at either airport it is unlikely they ever did and if so were acting in collusion and cooperation with U.S. and Israeli agents carrying out their 9711701 'false flag' terrorism at the WTC in NYC and at the Pentagon. :

Syria,9/11,WTC,ICTS International,Israel,Logan Airport: Sec of State John Kerry A Zionist Terrorist,Traitor

Ex U.S.Massachusetts Senator and present Secretary of State John Kerry lies outright as if Syria's government using 'chemical weapons' as fact just as W Bush lied outright about Saddam Hussein and Iraq having WMDs as an even more devious lie than Hitler and te Nais used as a pretext for invading and occupying Poland in WWII.
It is particularly repugnant for the U.S. government and its masters to use John Kerry to bring this lie to the U.S. public as if it were fact because he was one of the very  Zionists who used their political postions in Massachusetts in order to cover up all Iraeli as well as Saudi involvement in 9/11 - particularly for the Israelis of ICTS International............
Im sorry I was ever taken in by John Kerry playing the role of the repent 'war hero' and throwing his silver medal away in the US. as a protest against the evil he and his fellow soldiers or officers had been drawn into by lies of the U.S.government in Viet Nam.And then I thought John Kerry's role a Senator investigating the Iran Contra scandal  over twenty yesr ago was admirable, not knowing then that it is just as important what
one leaves out of an 'investigation' as what those running the investigation include. In other words now in retrospect it doesn't appear that John Kerry or other Senators investigationg Iran Contra even brought Israel into even a cameo role or even mentioned them during the hearings !Had these Senators particulary John Kerry not  a been bought or bribed  to leave Israel out of the Iran Contra history ? Could this very fact in the early 1990's of covering up Israel's role in Iran-Contra and running drug and arms in Central America to finance the early stages of a war between Iraq and Iran in the Middle East and allowing it to go unreported and unpunished not have been a contributor to the even bolder Israeli role  'false flag' attack on the WTC on 9/11/01 ?
Apparently the Israelis  have been correct in assuming the U.S.government and CIA and military industrial complex that the Pentagon beats to the drum of,particularly the likes of John Kerry, and his ilk  would be in control of the government at its highest levels and cover up for them again just as Kerry and his ilk  did for them during the Iran Contra cover up hearing presided over by Zionist Viet Nam war zero John Kerry. In fact he was so good at covering up the Israeli role in Iran Contra during those years they brought him back to repeat his role as Zionist or Israeli terrorism cover up agent in the Senate and to along with Barney Frank and John Kerry's replacemenbt as Senator,Ed Markey and perhaps to a lesser extent  even Ted Kennedy.
Although Ted Kennedy did call Barack Obama 'Osama bin Laden' shortly  before his death may have been more then just a 'slip of the tongue'......

New intel on Syria meets with skeptics in Congress
Gregory Korte, USA TODAY

Senate Finance Committee Chairman Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif., said the unclassified report released by the White House "tracks closely" with classified briefings that congressional leaders have been privy to.
She said the remarks by Secretary of State John Kerry "should stir the conscience of the world.".......

"I agree with Secretary Kerry that the world cannot let such a heinous attack pass without a meaningful response, and I hope the international community will take appropriate action," she said in a statement........

Among the rank-and-file, lawmakers in both parties said they had unanswered questions.
"American involvement in Syria means articulating America's security interests. POTUS has failed to do so. Need approval from Congress," tweeted Rep. Tom Price, R-Ga.
If the Obama administration is making a case to punish the Syrian regime for using chemical weapons, is it "fair to ask where weapons originated & who manufactured?" tweeted Rep. James Lankford, R-Okla.
Rep. Alan Grayson, D-Fla., said he found the language of the intelligence report awkward. The report said "regime officials" — not Assad — "were witting of" a chemical attack. "One could reasonably ask the question, 'What did Assad know, and when did he know it?' And if you ask that question, you'll be met with a stony silence," Grayson said on MSNBC. "We could have a situation here where there was literally a loose cannon who decided to undertake this."

Saudi Prince Bandar behind chemical attack in Syria: Report
Syrians in the Damascus suburb of Ghouta say Saudi Arabia provided chemical weapons for an al-Qaeda linked terrorist group which they blame for the August 21 chemical attack in the region, a report says.

The article co-authored by a veteran AP reporter, said interviews with doctors, residents, anti-government forces and their families in Ghouta suggest the terrorists in question received chemical weapons via Saudi spymaster Saudi Arabia's intelligence chief Prince Bandar bin Sultan Al Saud.

The report quoted the father of a militant as saying that his son and 12 others were killed inside a tunnel used to store weapons supplied by a Saudi militant leader, known as Abu Ayesha.

The man described the weapons as having a “tube-like structure” while others were like a “huge gas bottle.”

Anti-government forces, interviewed in the article, complained they were not informed of the nature of the weapons they had been given, nor did they receive instructions how to use them.

“When Saudi Prince Bandar gives such weapons to people, he must give them to those who know how to handle and use them,” said one militant.

Another militant accused the Takfiri militants of the al-Qaeda-linked al-Nusra Front of refusing to cooperate with other insurgents or sharing secret information. “They merely used some ordinary rebels to carry and operate this material,” he said.

“We were very curious about these arms. And unfortunately, some of the fighters handled the weapons improperly and set off the explosions,” he added.

The authors noted that the doctors who treated the chemical weapons attack victims cautioned interviewers against asking questions regarding who exactly was responsible for the deadly assault.

Also more than a dozen militants interviewed said their salaries came from the Saudi government. They reportedly said Prince Bandar is referred to as “al-Habib” (the lover) by al-Qaeda militants fighting in Syria.

According to Independent, it was Prince Bandar’s intelligence agency that first accused the Syrian government in February of using sarin gas in a bid to rally support for Riyadh’s efforts to topple Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.

And The Wall Street Journal has reported that the Saudi spy chief is considered by the CIA as "a veteran of the diplomatic intrigues of Washington and the Arab world [who] could deliver what the CIA couldn’t: planeloads of money and arms, and...wasta, Arabic for under-the-table clout."

‘US, allies seek geopolitical conflict’
An analyst says the US and its Western allies seek to overthrow sovereign nations as part of their larger scheme of a “geopolitical conflict” that is also bound to expand to Russia and China, Press TV reports.

Press TV has conducted an interview with Lawrence Freeman with the Executive Intelligence Review weekly newsmagazine to shed more light on the issue at hand.

He is joined by two additional guests: Hezbollah Media spokesman Ibrahim Mousawi from Beirut and Sharmine Narwani, a senior associate at Oxford University from Beirut.

The following is an approximate transcription of the interview.

Press TV: Let me get Mr. freeman in on this. Well, some mainstream Western sources are pointing the finger at Syria. Let’s look at the possibility how likely do you think that Syria could be behind this situation especially now that it has been engaged in this 19-month long war of course with foreign-backed armed groups there. How likely do you think that they would be involved in this at this point in time?

Freeman: My organization, yeah, our magazine we’re still investigating who actually if in fact this attack was carried out by the Syrian government. I have my suspicions that it probably wasn’t but I don’t know for sure because I see no benefit coming to the Syrians for this.

Now we look at the situation with Turkey, the Syrian government has been accused of launching the attack in Turkey that led to this two-week old conflict between the two countries and I seriously doubt that was the case and Turkey is being used.

And who knows if the various al-Qaeda or related network were not the ones who fired onto Turkey so that was the possibility in the situation in Lebanon because as the previous speaker mentioned, I agree that there is a plan now for massive chaos in the region.
I think you have to look towards the British royal family who created this whole mess with Sykes-Picot [Agreement] back in the early part of last century and I think you have to look at the Saudi royal family and to some extent Qatar that I think there is a deliberate policy to destroy the nation states throughout the entire region.

I think we have a situation in the United States with President Obama and his crazy UN envoy Susan Rice who would like to overthrow the government of Assad despite the fact that this violates the Geneva convention, the UN and the Russians and the Chinese are very much opposed because they see that this could lead to an attack on them.

So we have the danger of immediate dismantling of nations in the region, forming chaos and we also have the potential that this could lead to a wider war, a nuclear war with Russia and China. This is quite serious and we can see the situation.

Press TV: Mr. Freeman you talked about… Saudi Arabia, you talked about Qatar and you talked about the UK. I want to expand on your premise of what they would have to benefit from doing that?

Freeman: Over the last decade and more you’ve seen the policy from people like Tony Blair when he was still in government calling for regime change and the responsibility to protect, to replace the doctrine of the nation state which came out of the treaty Westphalia in 1648. What you have now is a collapse of the transatlantic financial empire. You’re seeing it played out in Europe.

It’s also continuing in the US and there are certain families and political financial circles who would not want to see strong nation states existing as this financial system begins to unravel and the Saudi family which was directly involved through Prince Bandar and others with elements around the world in the 9/11 attack in the United States in 2001 and we see similar elements were involved in the 9/11 attack of 2012.

And I know for a fact that there are factions in the US including our present ambassador who are joining with factions in the UK, who want to see nation states overthrown, regime change from Tony Blair and they feel that this is the best way they can control and govern the area.

So I feel that it’s an urgent situation to find out who was responsible but Lebanon is going to be used just as Syria is being used and other countries are being used as part of a larger geopolitical conflict that could expand to Russia and China and I take that overall picture that geopolitical reality very seriously.

Press TV: Mr. Freeman we’re almost out of time. How likely do you think that Tel Aviv could be behind trying to create chaos there?

Freeman: I think if Tel Aviv is behind it again they’re being used as a pawn as you probably know there is a huge fight going on inside Israel including a recent speech by the former head of Mossad in Washington that opposes an attack on Iran and that opposes further destabilizations in Syria as does the United States military General Dempsey of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.

So there are many people around the world who do not want to see the conflicts in this area of the world expand into a world war. However we do have the regime change faction which includes the current President of the United States Barack Obama.
What we need for the area is we should have a conference; should include Russia, include Iran, Syria, Lebanon, the countries in the area and discuss mutual economic benefits and stability and resuming the kind of relationships including Turkey that can advance the welfare and the economic conditions for the people in that region and we should eliminate and ridicule the use of war and regime change to settle these problems.

I mean this is a violation of international law. What’s going on in Syria with the West backing al-Qaeda and we have to get the Saudis and others to stop their attempts to over through the governments as well.

CIA Agent Barack Obama NSA Investigation Panel Like W Bush,Henry Kissinger's 'Official' 9/11 Report

CIA Agent Barack Obama NSA Investigation Panel Like W Bush,Henry Kissinger's 'Official' 9/11 Report

Mr. Sunstein might be a good fit on this panel…except for this: a paper he co-authored in 2010 titledConspiracy Theories in which he warned of the dangers of people who hold conspiracy theories – and calls on the government to engage in something called “cognitive infiltration” where “government agents might enter chat rooms, online social networks, or even real-space groups and attempt to undermine percolating conspiracy theories.”
In other words, using government to disrupt the free speech activities of innocent Americans. And he’s the guy who’s supposed to be caring about whether or not the NSA is abusing our civil liberties?.............

http://rt.com/op-edge/obama-nsa-high-level-group-064/

Obama’s NSA review board proving the cynics right

Sam Sacks is a political commentator and journalist, the last five years spent covering politics in Washington, DC.

When the US Congress wants to pretend to solve a problem, they create a “Gang of Six” or a “Gang of Eight.” When the White House wants to pretend to solve a problem, they create a panel – or some sort of independent review board.
Case in point, the White House’s recent problems with the NSA. At a press conference earlier this month, President Obama promised to form “a high-level group of outside experts to review our entire intelligence and communications technologies.”
He said this group will “consider how we can maintain the trust of the people, how we can make sure that there absolutely is no abuse in terms of how these surveillance technologies are used, ask how surveillance impacts our foreign policy.”
This panel of “outside experts” would draft a report by the end of the year for “better understanding of how these programs impact our security, our privacy, and our foreign policy.”
Of course, the more cynical among us (myself included) immediately dismissed this idea of an NSA review board knowing full well that review boards are DC speak for “kick the can down the road.”
And now that we know who’s sitting on this review board of “outside experts,” our cynicisms are well-founded.
The first two outsiders are national security insider Richard Clarke and CIA insider Michael Morell.
Richard Clarke (AFP Photo / Alex Wong)
Richard Clarke (AFP Photo / Alex Wong)
Clark served on the National Security Council for President Bush 1, Clinton, and Bush 2 – he wasbasically the counter-terror czar for the White House. Michael Morell spent 33 years working at the Central Intelligence Agency. He briefed Bush on 9/11. He was alongside Obama when Bin Laden was killed. And most recently, he was the former Director of the CIA, stepping down just in March of this year. So he’s been an outsider all of…five months.
Certainly these guys have a breadth of knowledge and experience. But clearly, they’ve spent their careers focused on protecting the United States from a terrorist attack, not keeping the ACLU content by protecting civil liberties. Heck, these guys have probably taken advantage of these very same programs they’re now tasked with reviewing.
So, half the panel has little background in the flip-side of the security coin – the privacy side. Which makes little sense considering that concerns over privacy – and other civil liberties including the First Amendment’s right to free association – are what started this debate over the NSA to begin with.
And the next “outside expert” on the panel is former White House insider Cass Sunstein. He was basically the information and regulatory czar – in charge of reviewing federal regulations and, according to WhiteHouse.gov, overseeing federal policies related to privacy and information quality.
And he’s the guy who’s supposed to be caring about whether or not the NSA is abusing our civil liberties?
But at least the administration was generous enough to stick one guy on this review board who does actually give a damn about NSA abuse. The fourth member of the panel is Peter Swire, a professor at the Georgia Institute of Technology. Recently, Swire has supported two legal briefs arguing that the NSA’s mass collection of our metadata is unconstitutional. So, if there’s going to be someone on this NSA outsider independent review board who’s an outsider and actually cares about civil liberties, then it’s Peter Swire. Unfortunately, it’s ONLY Peter Swire.
The rest are very clearly former national security and intelligence officials. Oh, and then there’s Cass Sunstein and his fairly far-out views about “cognitive infiltration.”
In an interview last week with CNN, President Obama admitted that, “the capabilities of the NSA are scary to people.”
U.S. President Barack Obama (AFP Photo / Jessica Kourkounis)
U.S. President Barack Obama (AFP Photo / Jessica Kourkounis)
He’s right. He’s presiding over a global security/surveillance apparatus that’s capable of collecting nearly the entire world’s communications and metadata, storing all of it, and then searching through it to conduct everything from lawful anti-terror investigation to downright scary pre-crime analysis to outright tyrannical Congressional blackmail.
And we’re supposed to believe that the NSA is keeping within its boundaries because they have “safeguards” in place. And just in case we’re not satisfied with the current safeguards, which we shouldn’t be considering recent NSA leaks showing thousands of abuses every year, the President is creating this “outside” review board to find any deficiencies and limit abuse.
This might have worked in the past. But today it won’t. After months of bombshell leaks showing how our government is going about spying on the whole world and misleading the American people, the cynics have been proven right all along. And we can all see right through this administration’s latest disingenuous gesture.

You would think that a 'nation' of self righteous white assholes who denounces anyone who questions their German Jewish Nazi like tactics as an 'anti-Semite' and who indeed play a major role in the 9/11 NYC WTC collapse and thesimultaneous  striking of the Pentagon itself through its penetration and sabotataging and corrupting of the U.S. 'intelligence','(CIA,FBI,etc.),and penetration into the U.S. government at the highest levels, including military officers who themselves put 'Israel First' and collude with these international terrorists and war crimuinals who have even made the U.S.a location for unleashing terrorist acts just to blame it on a nebulous   'Al Qaeda' or more generic Islamic terrorists' in order to erroneously brainwash Americans as well as Europeans to believe that we are all supposed to make all realSemites who speak Arabic rather than the made up Hebrew of the white murderous European created religious police state called Israel.........
And after the NY Times set the precedent that it was alright to lie about WMDS in Iraq if you are a Jewish or Zionist owned and 'news' agency in America - in other words since the post 9/11 overthrow of the U.S.Constitution in favor off the Israeli written 'Patriot Act' -fraud speech is good, only free speech to denounce it or the 'false flag' that was 9/11 is bad according to Barack Obama and Jewish Zionists in his regime such as Cass Sunstein.

Note the NY Times showing no remorse or pretending even a memory of having been the oines responsible foor the carnage of the U.S. invasion and occupation of Iraq based upon their own lies about WMD's IN IRAQ NOW POSTS AN EDITORIAL THAT TELLS US TO 'Bomb Syria,Even If It is Illegal' !the editor of the NY Times AS WELL AS HIS ZIONIST PROPOGANDISTS POSING AS JOURNALISTS SHOULD INDEED BE TRIED FOR WAR CRIMES AND THEY SHOULD BE SOLD SOLD TO PAY FOR LIFETIME MEDICAL CARE OF U.S.SOLDIERS AND THE FAMILIES THEY DESTROYED BY THEIR 'WMDS IN IRAQ' LIES !

Israeli intelligence 'intercepted Syrian regime talk about chemical attack'

A team of United Nations inspectors have resumed their second day of investigations at the site of an alleged chemical weapons attack outside Damascus, as western leaders moved towards military action in response to the Syrian regime's reported use of chemical weapons against civilians.

The UN team left their Damascus hotel early on Wednesday after the operation was suspended on Tuesday following a sniper attack on its convoy on Monday.

The bulk of evidence proving the Assad regime's deployment of chemical weapons – which would provide legal grounds essential to justify any western military action – has been provided by Israeli military intelligence, the German magazine Focus has reported.

The 8200 unit of the Israeli Defence Forces, which specialises in electronic surveillance, intercepted a conversation between Syrian officials regarding the use of chemical weapons, an unnamed former Mossad official told Focus. The content of the conversation was relayed to the US, the ex-official said.

The 8200 unit collects and analyses electronic data, including wiretapped telephone calls and emails. It is the largest unit in the IDF.

Israel has invested in intelligence assets in Syria for decades, according to a senior government official. "We have an historic intelligence effort in the field, for obvious reasons," he said.

Israel and the US had a "close and co-operative relationship in the intelligence field", he added, but declined to comment specifically on the Focus report.

Senior Israeli security officials arrived in Washington on Monday to share the latest results of intelligence-gathering, and to review the Syrian crisis with national security adviser Susan Rice.........

OOPS! NO GAS ATTACK BY ASSAD

The US and UK are facing a fight to keep their Syria attack plan on track

The UN and the UK Labour party want to delay any possible action.

A growing number of 'honest' commentators have turned against Obama and Cameron.

Dr Tim Stanley, a historian of the United States, writes in the UK Telegraph:

Syria: why would Assad invite a Western intervention by using WMDs

Dr Tim Stanley writes:

First, we've yet to ascertain that chemical weapons really were used by Assad – specifically we've not determined a) what kind of WMDs they were or b) who actually did it...

Second, why would the Assad regime do something so stupid?

It must know that by using chemical weapons it would isolate itself from any international support and invite a Western military response.

More importantly, Assad was already winning the war – so why bother to use WMDs during the last lap to victory?

Indeed, the only people who have anything to gain by Assad using chemicals are the rebels, because that would internationalise the conflict in a way that they have long lobbied for.

Girl raped and murdered by John Kerry's rebels.

Third, why is the West obliged to act even if Assad did use chemical weapons?

We are not under any such treaty obligations and the subject sure doesn't feature as a trigger for war in the US constitution...

John Kerry ... We've got one very good reason to doubt his accuracy: Iraq.

Remember that back in 2003, the then US secretary of state, Colin Powell, told the UN in no uncertain terms that Iraq definitely had WMDs.

Definitely, definitely, definitely.

The YouTube the video evidence of the massacre of August 21st was posted by the "Majles Rif" account ... the day before, on August 20th .

On these videos, one quickly detects a setup:

1. The wounded children appear haggard or drugged, and do not have parents who accompany them.

2. Boys are often naked, while the girls are all dressed.

3. We see no hospital structure, not even a clandestine one, except screens and pockets of serum.

U.S. Ambassador Samantha Power who would be more at home reprtesenting the Zionist money launderers and terroists of the City of London than representing Americans who have been lied into a war in great part for Rothschild,et.al. interests in oil particularly BP and Dutch Royal Shell who were the real beneficiaries of the Zionist terrorism of 9/11.In fact that's exactly what she's doing
as U.S. U.N. Ambassador - she is like Susan Rice before her, representing the hidden UK and Israeli Zionists who have taken over both the British as well as U.S.governments.

Cass Sunstein’s New Presidential Appointment Is Almost Hard to Believe…Especially Considering a Paper He Once Wrote

President Barack Obama named his controversial former regulatory czar – who as an academic advocated government infiltration of conspiracy theorists – to serve on the NSA oversight panel.

Cass Sunstein, who served as the administrator of the Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs throughout most of the Obama’s first term, advocated numerous policies as an academic – including the government infiltrating conspiracy theorist groups by joining “chat rooms, online social networks and real space groups,” in a 2008 paper he co-wrote at Harvard, as recently reported by The Washington Post.
“Those who subscribe to conspiracy theories may create serious risks, including risks of violence, and the existence of such theories raises significant challenges for policy and law,” the 2008 paper said.
“The first challenge is to understand the mechanisms by which conspiracy theories prosper; the second challenge is to understand how such theories might be undermined.” It continues, “Because those who hold conspiracy theories typically suffer from a crippled epistemology, in accordance with which it is rational to hold such theories, the best response consists in cognitive infiltration of extremist groups. Various policy dilemmas, such as the question whether it is better for government to rebut conspiracy theories or to ignore them, are explored in this light.”
The website ZeroHedge.com went so far as to ask if Sunstein is “America’s Goebbels?”
The National Security Agency oversight panel is mostly made up of national security experts such as former Central Intelligence Agency Acting Director Michael Morell and former White House anti-terrorism official Richard Clarke.
In another controversial stance, Sunstein advocated in a 2003 paper titled “Lives, Life-Years, and Willingness to Pay” for the University of Chicago that the government assign a higher monetary value to the lives of young people than to senior citizens with regards to health care spending. That’s a position he backed away from during testimony to the House Energy and Commerce Committee in June 2011.

Cognitive Infiltration: An Obama Appointee's Plan to Undermine the 9/11 Conspiracy Theory

Former Chicago and Harvard law professor Cass Sunstein, who in 2009 was appointed by President Barack Obama to direct an important executive branch office, had in 2008 co-authored an article containing a plan for the government to prevent the spread of anti-government "conspiracy theories." Arguing that such theories are believed only by groups suffering from "informational isolation," he advocated the use of anonymous government agents to engage in "cognitive infiltration" of these groups in order to introduce "cognitive diversity," with the aim of breaking them up. Noting that Sunstein's proposal has evoked condemnations from across the political spectrum--not least because it, being similar to the FBI's COINTELPRO of the 1960s, would be illegal--David Ray Griffin focuses on the fact that Sunstein's primary target is the conspiracy theory advocated by the 9/11 Truth Movement. Examining Sunstein's charge that this theory is both "harmful" and "demonstrably false," Griffin uses both satire and overwhelming evidence to show that this twofold charge applies instead to what Sunstein calls "the true conspiracy theory" about 9/11-namely, the "theory that Al-Qaeda was responsible for 9/11."

Who is Samantha Power?
The Irish Left Review writes about her:
Samantha Power – another ‘Good’ Imperialist
June 14, 2013, Alán Cienfuegos
Barack Obama’s nomination of Irish-born academic and writer Samantha Power to the post of US Ambassador to the UN is yet another example of the increasing trend toward ‘humanitarian’ war by the US government’s hawks in sheep’s clothing.
Samantha Power is, at first glance, a poster-girl for the image the Obama administration has sought to convey since 2009: a caring, liberal woman with a deep passion for human rights and a no-nonsense approach to the evil dictators and tyrants of this world. Born in Ireland in 1970, Power emigrated with her parents to the US in 1979. She subsequently lived the quintessential American Dream, an immigrant girl who worked hard in the Land of the Free to rise to the very top of US academic and political life. She was a journalist from 1993 to 1996, working for various US papers, known chiefly for covering the Yugoslav Wars, during which she saw all the horrors of that conflict that instilled in her a lifelong commitment to the cause of human rights and freedoms.
In fact, Ms Power’s position was/is like most of NATO countries’ political and big media establishments: supposedly, all horrors in Yugoslavia were the work of Serbs. While Croatian nationalists, ethnic Albanian nationalists, etc. were supposedly heroic freedom fighters. Not so. And Western countries’ military intervention in Yugoslavia killed many civilians, including children.
America’s liberal intelligentsia rejoiced when she was appointed to the US National Security Council in 2009 – here at last was someone who would bring a morality, a conscience, nay, even a heart to US foreign policy. That’s the well-polished image, anyway. But as so often with such facades, it hides an ugly reality.
Power rose to prominence in 2002 with the release of her book A Problem from Hell, in which she chided the US for its supposed indifference to genocides that took place from Yugoslavia to Rwanda; she asks “why does the US stand so idly by?”. No mention in the book’s 600-odd pages, of course, of the myriad atrocities perpetrated at the behest of the US government and the CIA since the end of World War Two – the mass slaughter of communists in Indonesia in 1965 and 66 by the US-backed Suharto regime, or that country’s savage invasion of East Timor, readily approved by US president Ford and Secretary of State Henry Kissinger, one of history’s worst war criminals. No mention of the disastrous UN sanctions against Iraq in the 1990s that killed hundreds of thousands of Iraqi children. In fact, not much mention at all of any horrific war crimes and mass killings that were committed with the intention of furthering America’s goals for global hegemony. But of course, one could hardly rise to the top of the US political pyramid by telling the truth.
No, Samantha Power’s solution to the perceived intransigence of the US to international human rights abuses is simple, and dovetails quite nicely with current US geopolitical objectives. She asserts that, in preventing genocide and human rights abuses, America needs to look at ‘all the tools in the toolbox’ – including military force. Power’s idea of spreading human rights and American democracy to the dark, backward world outside its borders is to deliver them on the warhead of a cruise missile.
She was one of the chief influences behind the Obama administration’s decision to intervene militarily in the Libyan conflict in 2011. The NATO bombardment of Libya that followed killed who knows how many civilians. NATO themselves say around 60; this is hardly believable given the ferocity of the assault. In the end the evil dictator (who had the temerity to kick foreign militaries out of his country, nationalise its resources and provide its people with the highest living standards in Africa) was brought down, butchered on the side of a desert road; to Samantha Power and her liberal followers, this intervention was a resounding success, and proof positive for her assertion that America needs to take a more robust role in defending human rights abroad.
What everyone conveniently forgets is that the NATO intervention in Libya just happens to have plunged that country into medieval chaos, its infrastructure destroyed, its government of western puppets barely worthy of the name, the country ruled effectively by the dozens of tribal and Islamic militias that NATO unleashed upon the people of Libya at the start of their programme for regime-change in 2011. Libya can presently be described as an utter mess, if we’re being generous.
One doubts whether Samantha Power would leave her comfortable home in the US to go live in the paradise her ideas on spreading ‘freedom’ have created in Libya. Then again, the destruction of Libya was never really about protecting human rights, and Samantha Power knows this very well. In truth Libya was removed from the picture because it was an obstacle to US and western military and economic hegemony in the Middle East and North Africa.

The new trend in US foreign policy towards a more benevolent-seeming imperialism is a clever move on the part of Barack Obama, a man portrayed by himself and his administration as a champion of peace and diplomacy (and consequently by the lunatic right in America as an evil communist). For the American public during the Bush years, the horrific reality of American imperial adventures abroad came home to them in the form of the thousands of flag-draped coffins, filled with their loved ones, that returned from Iraq and Afghanistan.
Not since the Vietnam War was the price of advancing US imperialism so obvious to the docile and pliant American people. It wouldn’t do. So along comes Barack Obama, the man of peace, and the perfect figurehead for ‘good’ imperialism. No more dead American soldiers (well, fewer anyway); instead, the enemies of freedom, young and old, men and women, innocent or guilty, are obliterated by robot killing machines called ‘Predators’ and ‘Reapers’, piloted remotely from US Air Force bases in Nevada by the young soldiers of the first video-game generation, who have no compunction about pressing a button to kill; they’ve grown up doing it after all.
And if the drones won’t do the job – recruit useful idiots like Islamic radicals, malcontents, criminals and mercenaries to destroy the desired target country from within; see Libya and Syria. When the evil government of said country defends itself against such militants, get the media to scream ‘genocide’, and in come the likes of Samantha Power and the good imperialists, to deliver hope and salvation from the ordnance-bay of a B2 stealth bomber. After all, what better image to portray for the American and western public than the old Hollywood cliche of the brave US cavalry charging to the rescue of the helpless and oppressed. It is a sham. Samantha Power’s lethal ideas for the spreading of human rights are a sham. And that so many people are apparently still fooled by such lies is perhaps the greatest sham of all.
More about Ms Power as a ‘greenwasher’ of really very anti-human rights wars.

Samantha Power: Human rights advocate no more?

On July 17, the Senate Foreign Relations Committee held a hearing on Samantha Power’s nomination to be the U.S. Permanent Representative to the United Nations. In order to gain the support of the members of the committee, which it is clear Power did as demonstrated by the committee’s 16-2 vote in her favor, Power disavowed her previous criticism of U.S. foreign policy, ignored President Obama’s own disastrous human rights record and, in the process, undermined her credibility on issues of human rights.
Two of Power’s claims exemplify her detachment from the reality of the Obama administration’s human rights record, a record that has been built largely under Power’s supervision. The first claim deals with how the U.S. responds to human rights violations committed by other members of the international community. In her testimony Power claimed, “If I am given the honor of sitting behind the sign that says ‘United States,’ I will do what America does best: stand up against repressive regimes and promote human rights.” This must be news to protesters in Bahrain.
In Bahrain, a popular protest movement seeking democratic reforms and greater respect for human rights began on February 14, 2011. Nearly two-and-a-half years later, the situation in Bahrain continues to deteriorate. Bahrainis with the courage to openly protest their government’s repression face systematic abuses that include arbitrary detention, torture, and extrajudicial execution. Members of the political opposition and human rights activists have been specifically targeted.
Rather than stand up for the rights of Bahrainis, the Obama administration has done the opposite. In 2011, Congress delayed a planned $53 million arms sale to Bahrain over human rights concerns. The Obama administration resumed arms sales to Bahrain in 2012, using a loophole that allows the executive branch to make arms sales free of congressional oversight when individual sales are under $1 million.
More recently, Juan Mendez, who was seeking to investigate allegations of torture in fulfillment of his mission as UN Special Rapporteur on Torture, was denied, for a second time, entry to Bahrain. These are the actions of a repressive regime that does not respect the rights of its people.
If confirmed, will Power raise the issue of Bahrain’s repression and human rights violations at the Security Council? Is there a Security Council resolution sponsored by the United States condemning Bahrain in our future? Clearly, what Power meant to say in her testimony was that she will stand up against oppressive regimes and in promotion of human rights when the Obama administration and the “national interest” permit.
Power’s second claim deals with the United States’ own human rights practices. According to Power, “The United States is the leader in human rights. It’s the leader in human dignity…We hold people accountable. That’s what we do—because we believe in international humanitarian law and we observe those laws.” Bush and Obama administration officials, you’ve been forewarned. Guantanamo detainees and potential innocent victims of drone strikes, rejoice!
Guantanamo Bay currently holds 166 detainees. 86 detainees have been cleared for release. At least 70 detainees are on hunger strike, with 46 of those designated for force-feeding. The indefinite detention of prisoners cleared for release is a clear violation of human rights law and the force-feeding of detainees on hunger strike is a violation of the UN Convention Against Torture.
President Obama’s targeted killing program violates international humanitarian law in a number of ways. For example, the authorization of so-called “signature strikes” violates the laws of war’s principle of distinction. By targeting individuals and groups based in behavioral characteristics rather than concrete identification, the Obama administration is failing to distinguish between civilians and combatants.
Two recent revelations also undermine claims of drone precision. According to Larry Lewis, a principal research scientist at the Center for Naval Analyses, drone strikes in Afghanistan have been ten times more deadly for civilians than attacks performed by fighter jets. Chris Woods of The Bureau of Investigative Journalism reported on a leaked Pakistani document, stating, “The internal document shows Pakistani officials too found that CIA drone strikes were killing a significant number of civilians – and have been aware of those deaths for many years.”
If confirmed, will Power seek to hold members of the Bush and Obama administrations accountable for violations of the Torture Convention and for war crimes? Is there a Security Council resolution referring members of both administrations to the ICC under Rome Statute Article 13(b) in our future?
Bush and Obama administration officials, have no fear. According to Power’s testimony, “serving in the executive branch is very different than sounding off from an academic perch.”
Apparently, whether violations of human rights and humanitarian law are recognized as such depends on who one’s employer is. Until I’m invited to join an administration, I guess I’ll keep chirping away from my academic perch.
